My Top Ten Filipino Party Food

Our party last weekend enticed me to make this list. It was actually my mom’s party for his friends and siblings. She cooked several recipes. And with a little help of a blogger son, it made the food not only look more appetizing, but it made the blogger come up with a list of top ten Filipino food in parties. hehe.

My mom cooked six recipes; the other four have already been posted here on this blog, and I’ve decided to include them on the list because they really should be included. Here are my top ten Filipino Party food:

Lechon

Image from manilamarket.com

This is my number one because it’s the country’s most favorite luxury food. Lechons are served during special occasions like birthdays, Christmas days, weddings, fiestas, anniversaries, and among others. Lechon is sucking pig in English; it can also be called roasted pig, as in the whole swine is roasted. The best lechons can be found in Cebu City.

Kare Kare

Wow. A very scrumptious, special Filipino food, Kare Kare is always present at parties. Kare Kare is made up of pork feet or ox feet, puso ng saging (banana blossoms), peanut butter, radish, pechay, string beans, eggplant, and some other vegetables and spices. Kare is Kare is served with bagoong (fish paste) as dipping sauce.

Pancit Bihon

Pancit Bihon is always around at parties. As a Filipino myth goes, “Pampa haba ng buhay.” In English, “Pansit makes life longer.” This is why it’s the food popular in birthday parties, so when you eat it, it gives you more and more birthdays to come.

Kinilaw

Be it tuna or malasugi, kinilaw has always been scrumptious in parties. Kinilaw can be made as a viand and as a side dish in drinking sprees.

Fried Chicken

Who can resist fried chicken? This has always been around even without ocassion. But when it is served in parties, it makes parties incomplete without these yummy fried chicken, especially the drumsticks, the legs.

Sinugbang Tuna Panga (Grilled Tuna Jaw)

This food always goes together with the tuna kinilaw. More popular in Davao, since Davao is abundant with tunas from General Santos City. It makes the party merrier with this ever-delectable tuna panga.

Sinugbang Buntot ng Bariles

When you have the sinugbang tuna panga, you also have this sinugbang buntot ng bariles or grilled tuna tail at parties. It is improtant not to overcook the tuna tail so that the juiciness of the meat is retained.

Sinugbang Kitang

Kitang is best cooked when grilled. This fish is saltier than any other fish, so careful with putting salt in it; just sprinkle a bit. Kitang is also called Danggit or Samaral in different areas in the Philippines.

Sinugbang Bangus

Another sinugba recipe, bangus is always the preferred food in special occasions. Sinugbang Bangus is best served with soy sauce, calamansi, and red chili pepers as dipping sauce.

Sinugbang Baboy

Also called as Grilled Pork, Sinugbang Baboy is also the favorite party food in the Philippines. This is mostly served with beers and hard liquors in parties.

So there you go my top ten Filipino party food. :-)
