Asiong Salonga is Coming

It was in the early 90′s when I got fascinated with Philippine action movies like Walang Awa Kung Pumatay, Bad Boy, Kidlat ng Maynila, Kahit Singko Di Ko Babayaran Ang Buhay Mo, among others. Now, for the very first time in a very long time, an action movie is set to show in movie houses soon: Manila Kingpin: Asiong Salonga Story.

I can’t wait to watch how the protagonist blast all the bud guys with his fumed anger and his gun. Dialogues like, “Lintik lang ang walang ganti,” “Di ako kumakain ng bigas, sinasaing ko muna para maging kanin bago ko kainin.” These are the lines that I want to hear. I believe that Asiong Salonga’s lines would still have the same tension as those spoken by FPJ, Erap Estrada and Pacquito Diaz in the old days. Isn’t Gorege Estregan Jr. the nephew of Erap Estrada and the prodigal son of the late Goerge Estregan (brother of Erap Ejercito Estrada)?

I can’t wait to see the protagonist being oppressed at the beginning of the movie, and change all that when he starts to take revenge, no, when he starts to takes vengeance to the people who owe him. Time to pay. A day of reckoning comes. Gunfires and fistfights and nothing but gunfires and fistfights. Can’t wait to see how Asiong Salonga blast all the enemies with his fist and gun, with his tongue-lashing words, with a cigarette in his mouth. Violence makes this time a pleasant scene to watch.

Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story will be shown on December 25, 2011 to January 7, 2012 at the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival. After this, the movie rolls into theaters near you.

Asiong Salonga Story is directed by Amable “Tikoy” Aguiluz VI and stars Joerge Ejercito–also known as Joerge Estregan Jr.–Phillip Salvador, John Regala, Carla Abellana, Baron Geisler, Ping Medina, Ketchup Eusebio, Dennis Padilla, Gerald Ejercito, Roi Vinzon, Jaycee Parker, Valerie Concepcion, and Amay Bisaya.

Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story is bogged with a controverial complaint by the director against the producer. Tikoy Aguiluz filed a complaint to the Manila Prosecutor’s Office against the film producer for violation of rights. It has been reported that the movie was maimed by the producer. Aguiluz claims that the final cut was re-edited, re-shot and re-scored without his awareness.

Joerge ER Ejercito commented that he respects Tikoy Aguliz about filing a complaint, but also said that it is also the producer’s right to edit the movie.

The more controversial a movie is, the more it attracts the audience. I predict that The Asiong Salonga Story will top all the entries at the Metro Manila Film Festival soon.

Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (John Regala), Best Screenplay, Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award, Best Cinematography, Best Musical Score, Best Sound Recording, Best Editing, Best Production Design.

My prediction is correct. Kudos Asiong!
