Everyone of us, especially we Filipinos, know what malunggay or kamunggay is. We always see this green leafy vegetable in our backyard, in supermarkets, public markets, and even in yards on the streets.
But do you know what this vegetable can do to our body? Well, I tell you: A LOT.
Apart from the common knowledge that malunggay increases digestion and has anti-biotic elements, malunggay is a miracle food and medicine. Malunggay commonly can cure infected and inflamed wounds very effectively. It also has vitamins and nutrients that cannot be replaced by any other fruit, vegetables, or any multi-vitamin food supplements. Malunggay is a herbal medicine and main source of vitamins in one.
But do you know that a malunggay leaves not only can be eaten as food? It can also be drunk. No, not as a tea, but as a juice. The leaves can be extracted and drink as beverage. I have actually tried it. I got two bunches of malunggay leaves with the stalks and placed them inside my juicer. And guess what? Ugh! I drank it. Oh oh yah! How did it taste? Ahmm, ok that’s what I’m going to say now. Ha! It was awful! Really.
You know why it’s awful? Because what I got was only the syrup after juicing them all from the juice pan. It was really weird that the leaves can produce a sticky green substance. Parang lumot. Talaga, as in. ngek; but I did drink it.
According to some health experts, the juice of fruits and vegetables can produce more vitamins and minerals than the solid vegetables and fruits eaten as food, cooked or raw. Because the juice will go directly into our body immediately, unlike the food it goes to a process of digestion, and cannot get the more vitamins that our body needs.
I just added water, sugar and ice cubes, then there I drank it like it was alcoholic liquor. I drank it because I knew malunggay juice has 10 times the beta carotene of carrots, 5 times the vitamin C of calamansi, and has all the anti bacterial, anti oxidants, other vitamin and minerals.
It really tasted a bit hot as though you eat a tiny green chili pepper. I don’t know, but it was just hot. And my stomach ticked a bit. I don’t know if I’m going to drink that green substance again. I think I won’t do it anymore because it really tasted like poison. I better settle back to my favorite carrot juice.
Meanwhile I have to look for malunggay tea na lang. Or just cook them into a boiling tinolang manok or isda. That way malunggay is so oh yummy yummy to eat with the soup. Hoowah!

Nonoy, how are you now?! Parang gusto ko i try yang Malunggay Juice, mukhang healthy! Hehehe! Favorite ko ang malunggay sa ginisang Munggo, na may chicaron! I’m not sure kung kakayanin ko yung lasa kapag ni juice ko na… Nung nilagay mo ba sa juicer eh kasama yung tangkay or just leaves?! Take care always! God bless! =)
Sinamahan ko ng konting stalks Jomi, para lumabas rin yung juice; hehe; oo maganda ihalo sa ibang fruit juice yan; Take care and God Bless you too Jomi.
